Byron W. "Coke" Myers, 89, died Wednesday, August 4, 2010, at Goodland Regional Medical Center. The funeral will be Tuesday, August 10, at 10:00 AM MT, at First Christian Church in Goodland, with Reverend Carol Edling Jolly officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery. Friends may share their respects on Monday, from 3:00 until 7:00 PM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland. He was born June 23, 1921, at Goodland, Kansas, the son of Byron W. and Arla Irene (Russell) Myers. He graduated with the class of 1939 from Sherman Community High School in Goodland, After continuing his education at University of Nebraska-Lincoln, he served his country in the United States Army, serving in the 9th Air Foce during World War II. After his service, he returned to Goodland where he joined his father and brother in operating Myers Oil Company. On December 28, 1946, he and Jimmie F. "Fritzi" Foote were married, and to this union was born Byron W. Myers III. Jimmie preceded him in death on February 5, 1965. On August 8, 1969, he and Dixie L. (Hobson) Allaman were married, and to this union was born Michelle. Dixie preceded him in death on May 30, 2003. His memberships included First Christian Church, Elks Lodge 1528, Veterans of Foreign Wars--Lowell Coleman Post 1133, and Sugar Hills Golf Club. Also preceding him in death was an infant brother. Surviving family includes son Byron W. Myers III and his wife Molly of Grand Island, Nebraska; daughter Michelle Simoneau and her husband Paul of Goodland; two step-sons TJ Allaman and his wife Toni of Lakin; Mike Allaman and his wife Robin of Liberal; eleven grandchildren Melissa Adams, Kit Myers, Dalton Schneider, Courtney Schneider, Alex Simoneau, Dane Simoneau, Mason Simoneau, Lacey Allaman, Cole Allaman, Morgan Allaman, Garrett Allaman; one great-granddaughter Abigail Adams; and brother Cleo Myers of Cushing, Oklahoma.
Longtime Sharon Springs, Kansas resident Vlasta Blaesi, 93, died Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune, Kansas. The funeral will be Friday, August 13, at 10:30 AM MT, at the United Methodist Church in Sharon Springs, with Reverend Keith Anglemyer offciating. Burial will follow in the Sharon Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be designated to the Sharon Springs United Methodist Church, Ministerial Alliance, Wallace County Health Department, or American Cancer Society, and may be left at the service or mailed to Koons Funeral Home, 211 N. Main, Goodland, KS 67735-1555. Vlasta Holsan was born August 24, 1916, in DuBois, Nebraska, to John and Marie (Vosika) Holsan. Vlasta was always proud of her 100% Czechoslovakian heritage. She was a 1935 graduate of Summerfield High School in Summerfield, Kansas, and received her Bachelor of Science degree in 1944 and Master of Science degree in 1949 in Home Economics Education from Kansas State College in Manhattan, Kansas. On May 29, 1948, she married Dwight D. Blaesi from Abilene, Kansas. Vlasta taught grade schools in Marshall and Osage counties and high schools in Eustis, Nebraska, and Junction City, Horton, Holcomb, and Shallow Water, Kansas. She was a home economics educator and teacher trainer at Kansas State College (KSU). She had great memories of teaching. She was a member of Kansas Association for Family & Community Education for more than twenty-five years, and Extension leader in Eastern Kansas, and a 4-H leader. Dwight and Vlasta "Val" moved to Sharon Springs in 1969 and were members of the United Methodist Church. Vlasta enjoyed reading and gardening and was known for sharing her hospitality along with her homemade cinnamon rolls. She and her husband enjoyed traveling and keeping in contact with friends and family. Vlasta was preceded in death by her husband and parents; her sister Anna Jones; and two brothers Adolph Holsan and Joe Holsan. Survivors include her daughter LaVon Fae Blaesi of Fort Collins, Colorado; her sons John Edward Blaesi and wife Mary of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; and Ronald Lee Blaesi and wife Shirley of Sharon Springs; and their children: LeAnn and husband Jeremy Hansford of Emporia, Kansas; Duane Blaesi of Omaha, Nebraska; Jacqueline and husband Ryan Freed of Topeka, Kansas; amd Elizabeth Blaesi of Madison, Wisconsin.
Former Goodland, Kansas resident Daniel Duane Moore, 32, died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at his home in Colorado Springs, Colorado. The funeral will be Monday, August 30, 2010 at 10:30 AM MT, at Koons Chapel in Goodland with Pastor Randy Payne officiating. Burial will follow in the Goodland Cemetery with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy. Memorials may be made in Daniel's name to either the National Rifle Association or to the Terry C. Daniel was born July 25, 1978 in Burlington, Colorado to Darrell Duane and Anna Carlene (Tellessen). He received his G.E.D. in Salina, KS. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1999 and was honorably discharged in 2003. After leaving the Navy he lived in Colorado Springs and was employed by West Electric as an apprentice electrician. He enjoyed being with his family and friends. Daniel is preceded in death by his infant sister Tammy Rae Moore, Grandparents Walter and Juanita Moore, Lawrence Edward Tellessen, and Elroy Fenner. He is also preceded by an uncle Gary Moore and cousin Gary Sue Moore. Survivors include his parents Carlene and Dale Fenner of Goodland, Darrell and Ardy Moore of Salina, KS, sisters Michelle (Kim) Rounsley of Plainville, KS, Amanda (Paul) Mills of Tempe, AZ, and Erica Fenner of Goodland. Three step-brothers Shea (Tish) Fenner of Independence, MO, Kelly Fenner of Blue Springs, MO, and Jason Whitson of Salina. A step-sister Jenny (Jason) Cech of Salina. He is also survived by his grandmothers; Jean Tellessen and Lucille Fenner both of Goodland, and his great-grandmother Helen Emig of Goodland.
